Wilson Briggs

Managing Director

Wilson’s father Alfred founded the business in 1933 and has been integral to the business success since the day he officially joined the firm at the age of 14. Wilson has built a business with a passion for innovation, excelling in bespoke design and most importantly understanding our customers. Wilsons reputation within the industry has led to him receiving a lifetime achievement award from the Irish Kitchen Awards.

What inspires Wilson when designing?
Learning about new technology and how I can incorporate it into my designs fascinates me. The new hobs with built in extractors have been a game changer, removing the need for overhead extractors and making designs much more beautiful.

Favourite part of your job?
When I watch my family and staff all working together to produce and install our kitchens to the highest calibre it makes me extremely proud. However, the best bit is hearing the customers reactions when they start to use their dream kitchen. That’s why at 74 years young I still love what I do.

Best advice for customers seeking a new kitchen?
If you are building your own home, come and see us as early as possible. Windows need to be located to allow plenty of light into the room, but in locations that give us enough space to produce clean runs of cabinets.

Alfie Briggs

Development Manager

Alfie followed in his father’s footsteps by going into the family business continuing his grandfather’s legacy of producing the finest kitchens in Ireland. He learnt his craft by studying furniture production and business management at Brunel University before retuning home to the business.

Favourite part of your job?
Our customers are integral to our business and I regularly get to engage with them when they are in with our design team. Listening to how our team have created bespoke furniture which they love is great to hear. However, as our family business is the oldest in Ireland we have a wealth of history which can regularly surprise me. There is no better feeling than when we have customers come in and tell us about how we created their grandmother’s kitchen and the memories they associate with it. We have even had clients tell us about how they slept in an Alwood cot as a baby. These were produced as part of our war effort.

Best advice for customers seeking a new kitchen?
Our team will want to future proof your kitchen so think of how your home life may change and adapt. How will you need your kitchen to work for you in the future? This allows our team to create a design which will work hard for you in every stage of your life.

Janice Sutherland

Designer

Janice’s eye for detail and quality set her apart from all others, winning two design awards in her first year of entry. Janice’s long-standing relationships with the country’s leading interior designers, has led to her designing bespoke, handcrafted kitchens in some of Irelands most sought-after homes. As the designer of the stunning kitchens at the Harberton BT9 development Janice has demonstrated how every kitchen we design is bespoke to our customers.

What inspires Janice when designing?

I started working in the home interiors and kitchen industry straight after school and fell in love with it. With a passion for creating timeless designs, I take inspiration from travelling to trade shows and spending far too many hours flicking through Pinterest and Houzz. Being a mother and watching how my young son loves to help me cook, has allowed me to design elements into kitchens which families love.

Favourite part of your job?
I don’t really class what I do as a job, as I enjoy it so much and get to work with amazing clients. There is no better feeling when a client shows me a very on trend idea and I turn this idea into a timeless design. I have always been a pioneer for pushing the boundaries in working with different materials. David our production manager and I get such a buzz when our clients fall in love with a bespoke creation we have created together.

Best advice for customers seeking a new kitchen?
It’s my job to listen and to understand what you want from your home, so when you come to see me come armed with all your ideas. Never be afraid of any ideas, if we didn’t push the boundaries of design we would not be living in such wonderful buildings.

Holly Rathore

Designer

After graduating in Interior Design at the Ulster University, Holly worked for Terry Design and Mivan Marine, creating stunning designs for retailers and world famous cruise liners. Holly’s designs and attention to detail led to Wilson asking her to join the business as part of our expanding team. One of her first projects was to create the new 1933 showroom kitchen. Holly’s design showcases the business’ rich history using time served techniques on traditional materials and pantries’ mixed with the latest innovations through smart home integration.

What inspires Holly?

Ever since I was a child my mother always said I had an eye for design. Not long after joining Alwood, I went to Milan to the worlds largest design show which was phenomenal. As a designer, Milan allowed me to discover first hand and experience the latest trends and the design boundaries that are being pushed.  I love exploring new cities and admiring historic and modern architecture for design inspiration.

Favourite part of your job?
At Alwood there is nothing we cannot create for any type of business. At present I am currently designing new bedrooms for two hotels whilst working on dream family kitchens.  In my role I get to work with, and meet the most amazing people.  There is no better feeling than walking into completed designs with my customers and seeing how delighted they are with their dream kitchen or bedroom.

Best advice for customers seeking a new kitchen?
You don’t get to create your dream kitchen everyday so enjoy the experience – it’s actually a lot of fun. My role as a designer is to  take all of the stress out of renovations and to create a bespoke kitchen tailored to suit my clients needs. As my background is in interior design, I would always tell customers to think how the other rooms in their home will flow and compliment their kitchen.

Ivan Burrows

Designer

Ivan is one of the most experienced designers in the kitchen industry with over 35 years’ experience of designing and manufacturing bespoke kitchens. Ivan’s reputation of creating award winning designs has led to generations of customers choosing him to design their dream kitchen.

What inspires Ivan when designing?

Taking on the challenge of designing a new kitchen is a wonderful challenge for me. Every home has its own character which I aim to bring to life to in my designs. I could spend hours walking through customers homes, looking at the architecture and views taking inspiration from them.

Favourite part of your job?
In this job I have the pleasure of getting to build relationships with customers from all over the country. In my 35 years within the industry I have a vast number of customers who have went on to become life long friends. I believe that to design a customer’s dream kitchen you have to understand them first. Some will want a practical working kitchen with all their mixers and utensils at hand, others prefer a minimalistic design with everything hidden.

Best advice for customers seeking a new kitchen?
Take time to gather all your ideas for how you would like to live in your dream kitchen. There are so many different looks and styles out there that you need to refine your preferences. Houzz, Pinterest and Instagram are fantastic for creating mood boards. By having a clear idea of the style, you like with your budget allows me to design a kitchen tailored to you.
